Colleen T. Spence, 96, widow of Carl Spence, of Boyertown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at Lehigh Valley Hospice.
Born in Red Lion, Colleen was the daughter of the late Austin Lorenzo Taylor and the late Esther Olive (Althouse) Taylor.
After high school, Colleen attended Elizabethtown College, where she earned a degree as a lab technician, and ultimately met her husband, Carl.
Colleen worked briefly as a lab technician, yet her heart was fullest at home raising her family. As a devoted, life-long member of Good Shepherd UCC in Boyertown, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school in her younger years.
Colleen’s friendly smile was the foundation for many lifelong friendships. All of her favorite activities, golf, tennis, bowling or bridge club, were simply ways for her to enjoy what she valued most of all, spending quality time with those she loved.
Colleen treasured time together at the family beach house in Ocean City, NJ where she enjoyed crossword puzzles and sunshine on the beach. She had a passion for knitting, but it wasn’t limited to yarn. Colleen knit together a beautiful family, her greatest joy, tightly woven together with her love, laughter, and compassion.
Colleen, or Mom-Mom, as she was affectionately known by everyone, is survived by her three children, Leanne Mallin, wife of Paul Gillane; Carol Lorah, wife of Troy; and Jeff Spence, husband of Joan, as well as thirteen grandchildren: Rob, Matt, Jocelynne, Taylor, Bryan, Dan, Anthony, Michelle, Shane, Seth, Alexis, Shaun, and Jaclyn. Colleen is also survived by twenty great grandchildren, one daughter in law, Maritza, and an extended loving family.
Colleen is predeceased by her daughter, Judith Hissim, son, Brian Spence, grandson, Devin Spence, and granddaughter Wendy Spence.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 9:00AM to 11AM, at Good Shepherd UCC, 35 W. Philadelphia Ave., Boyertown, PA 19512. A funeral service will follow at 11AM.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd UCC at the address above, or the charity of your choice.

So very sorry and sincere condolences for your loss to the entire Spence family . Our deepest sympathies and prayers, the Dyjak family
I knew “Coke” as she was introduced to me by Shirley Reifsnyder! I worked as an Activity Director at Walnut Woods. Coke loved to come to the many events that I planned at the community. She always brought her beautiful, warm smile and many kind words with her! She was such a sweet, beautiful, dear woman with a warm heart and hug! I looked forward to her visits! I’m thankful for the pleasure of knowing her! My heart and condolences go out to her beautiful family! She will be dearly missed! Rest In Peace in the Lord’s loving arms Coke!
Carol, Jeff and families,
I am saddened to learn about the loss of your mother. Mrs. Spence was truly one of the most beautiful and kind people I had the pleasure to know.
I have many fond memories of pool parties at the end of each school year when we went to Lincoln Elementary, as well as sleepover parties. She was always a
gracious hostess even to a bunch of giggling girls.
In her later years I would see her at middle school concerts and remarkably she always remembered who I was! The world,
Boyertown and most importantly your
family has lost a very special lady.
Keep your memories close to make you smile when you think of her.
Deb (Neubauer) and Rick Becker
Great Person always a hello with her Big smile!!!
Dear Leanne, Carol, and Jeff;
Dear ‘Coke’ was a special lady, mom, and friend – and reading this brought back many memories spent with the Spence’s at your home in Boyertown and on Brighton Place!!
Fun times!! Also memories of Brian come to mind and how we would laugh and play Rummy 500 . Then came Carol and Nancy! 😊How blessed are you in the assurance that they have joined ‘Spence’ and a happy chorus in heaven (including Biz and Mary!) in God’s eternal home! Our thoughts s and prayers are with you all , and I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday❤️.
