Marie S. Geiger
1929-2024
Marie S. Geiger, 94, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, August 29, at Pennsburg Manor, where she was a resident since August, 2021. She was the daughter of Arthur M. and Amanda (Dahms) Sweinhart.
Marie was married to the late Roy A. Geiger, Sr. Born on October 7, 1929, she was the longest living member of the original Powder Mill Hollow Community. Marie lived in the house she was born in until 2021, when she and Roy became Pennsburg Manor residents, and shared a room there together until Roy’s passing in April, 2022.
A 1947 graduate of Boyertown High School, Marie was employed at Robert Wren Accounting as well as PennReel Fishing Rods in Gilbertsville.
Marie and Roy dated in high school, and they married in 1950. As they raised a family, Marie stayed at home, caring for the children, and helping her father, Art Sweinhart, with the greenhouse. She was a floral arranger, and a great cook and baker.
Marie was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Gilbertsville. She was a member of the Committee of the Arts, and Social Ministry Committee, making sure to send cards to members for illness, sympathy, and special occasions. She also taught Sunday School, and served as a Brownie Leader. Marie enjoyed being a part of the Parish Life Committee, where she helped do lots of cooking and baking for the church picnics. She was an active member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Scouts, of Gilbertsville, and the Boyertown Opti-Mrs. Club.
After the children were out of school, Marie held jobs at Boscov’s, Pomeroys, Royer’s Flowers, and the Bon Ton. She enjoyed working at the polls in Earl Township for elections for a number of years.
Marie is survived by her three children, Roy Jr. and Anne (Davenport) of Virginia, Kathy and Larry Billger of Boyertown, and Ross and Carol (Foor) of Trooper. She is also survived by three grandchildren, David Geiger, Susan Geiger (Matt Lockard), Emily Geiger, and a great granddaughter, Avery Geiger.
She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews in the Sweinhart and Geiger Families.
In addition to her husband and parents Marie is predeceased by two brothers, Edmund W. Sweinhart, and Arthur M. Sweinhart, Jr.
A Celebration of Life Service for Marie will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. A time of gathering will begin at 9:30 a.m. The services will be held at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 35 Wilson Ave., Gilbertsville, PA 19525. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Boyertown. Contributions of flowers are welcome, as are contributions made in her memory to the St. Luke Lutheran Church Carillon Fund, 35 Wilson Avenue, P.O. Box 338, Gilbertsville, PA 19525.
