John Graef

John Graef, 91, husband of Katharine (Fabi) Graef, of Boyertown, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, June 12, 2023.

Born in Senndorf, Siebenburgen, Transylvania, Romania, John was the son of the late Georg Graef, and Maria (Csef) Graef.

Upon immigrating to America in 1956, John worked as a laborer at Funk Fruit Farm in Boyertown for thirteen years. Following that, he worked various jobs as a machinist for Knoll International in East Greenville, Red Cheek in Fleetwood, and Smith Pie in Pottstown before settling into Dana Corporation in Pottstown for fifteen years as a machinist.

John was an active member of St. Joseph’s Hill Lutheran Church. He was also a lifetime member of The Reading Liederkranz German American Club in Reading, PA. John loved gardening, music, and spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty-four years is one son, Robert Graef, husband of Lori, and one daughter, Gertrude Graef, as well as a grandson, Jordan Graef, husband of Elizabeth, and a granddaughter, Lauren Donovan, wife of John. He is also survived by one step-sister, Maria Lettner, and several nieces and nephews.

John is predeceased by two brothers: Georg Graef, and Michael Graef, as well as a step-brother, Martin Graef.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at Hill Church Cemetery 620 Hill Church Rd, Boyertown, PA 19512 on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church 1749 S. Main St Bechtelsville, PA 19505.

  7. So sorry to hear of John’s passing I just found out now when I saw your house go on the market. John and your family were the best beighbors anyone could have growing up. Your whole family was very kind a special. I am so glad I stopped and talk to you and John when I saw you outside I guess that must have been over a year ago. My regards to Gertie and Robert.
