Ruth I. Wirt departed this life on June 8, 2022, at the age of 102 years, 7 months, 1 day.  Born on November 7, 1919, in McAlisterville, Juniata County, PA, she was the daughter and youngest child of the late Samuel Rice McCormick and Minerva Mae (Sieber) McCormick.  Ruth attended a one-room schoolhouse in Locust Run, Thompsontown High School, and graduated from Juniata-Joint High School with the class of 1938.

Having wed Ralph W. Wirt on May 31, 1943, they shared 46 years of marriage until his passing on July 21, 1989.

Ruth is survived by her three children:  son Lowell R. and wife Judy Krall Wirt of Lebanon, PA; son Donald S. and wife Jo Anne Moyer Wirt of Pottstown, PA; and daughter Barbara J. Wirt Eisenhart and husband Carl of New Berlinville, PA.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren:  Andrew L. Wirt, husband of Tricia Batdorf Wirt; Amy R. Wirt Dutton, wife of Dennis Dutton; Kathryn E. Wirt Bright, wife of Jacob Bright; Valerie A. Wirt Harshman, wife of Todd Harshman; Gregory M. Wirt, husband of Anne Jorgensen Wirt; Michael S. Wirt; Steven C. Eisenhart; Brian K. Eisenhart; eighteen great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; one cousin, Sieber Stoner of Mifflintown, PA, family friend Patricia Berger; and Beverly Smale, devoted friend and next-door neighbor for 67 years.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her two brothers, J. Sieber McCormick of Thompsontown, PA, and Chester A. McCormick, of Mifflintown, PA.

A member of New Hanover Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ruth served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Altar Guild for fifty years, Acolyte Coordinator for forty years, a pastoral visitor, and office volunteer.  She worked at the New York Store and H. F. Smith and Son in Pottstown.  Ruth enjoyed sewing, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Visitation will be held at New Hanover Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2941 Lutheran Road, Gilbertsville, PA, on Monday, June 13, 2022, from 10:00-11:00 AM.  A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church.  Interment will take place in the New Hanover Lutheran Church cemetery.

Following the interment there will be a luncheon at the church Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Hanover Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Morrell Funeral Home of Boyertown, PA, is handling the arrangements.
