Alice A. Alpi

Alice A. Alpi

Alice A. (Mauger) Alpi, 86, widow of Angelo “Al” Alpi, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Chestnut Knoll.

Born in Pine Forge, Alice was the daughter of the late Ralph Y. Mauger and Alice (Carl) Mauger.

Alice was a graduate of Pottstown High School and enjoyed a few retail jobs throughout her life but her main focus was being a homemaker and an avid gardener.

She met her husband, Al, on the top of a mountain skiing in New York on Valentine’s Day and their enjoyment of nature’s beauty led them to live in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado as well as seaside on the coast of Maine.

Growing up on “Mauger’s Fruit Farm” set the stage for her love of plants of all kinds. Forever learning of new varieties in every region that they lived allowed her to enjoy the most beautiful gardens that she helped God create. Harvesting apples and blueberries and cooking wonderful desserts with them brought her much joy.

She documented her daily life in fabulous journals including colored pencil drawings of things she loved (mostly flowers and plants). The cards and letters she would write to family and friends will always be cherished.

Upon returning to Pennsylvania, she discovered a love for basket weaving. This was a craft that her forefathers had mastered, and she carried on that tradition with much skill, creating beautiful items that she shared with loved ones. Her family heritage was very important to her, and she continued to do research of her lineage as her mother had done.

She was a blessing to all who knew her, and she shared her love of life and learning with all.

She is survived by three stepdaughters: Patricia Poland, wife of Dwane, of Arizona, Joanne Graef, wife of Rob, of Colorado and Kathleen Gannon, wife of Tom, of New York, as well as four stepsons: Robert Alpi, husband of Andrea, of Michigan, Edward Alpi, of Colorado, John Alpi, of Florida, and William Alpi, of Connecticut.  She is also survived by a stepson in law, Joseph Royer, widower of Suzanne, as well as several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Kimberly, who departed this world upon birth as well as a brother, Ralph David Mauger.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, from 10AM to 11AM at St. Columbkill Roman Catholic Church 200 Indian Spring Rd. Boyertown, PA 19512. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11AM. Burial will be in Forrest Hills Memorial Park in Reading, PA.

One Condolence
  1. I got to know Alice through her friendship with my mother, Helen Yocom. I was fortunate enough to be in her company many times after her move to Boyertown. I enjoyed our conversations, and we shared a love of flowers and gardening. Alice was so kind and warm, and I deeply appreciated her loyal and lasting friendship with my mother. They enjoyed many lunches out and watched their favorite PBS shows together. The last time I saw Alice was September 10th, 2021, at my mother’s Celebration of Life gathering at my house. I can only believe that they are reunited in Heaven and continuing their special friendship. My deepest condolences.

    Warm regards,
    Donna Yocom Parrish
