Wilmer A. Bechtel

Wilmer A. Bechtel, 85, of Douglassville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, in Complete Care-Berkshire, Exeter Township, where he resided since August.

Born at home, in Bechtelsville, Mr. Bechtel was the son of the late Ammon F. and Grace Lizzie Bechtel. He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred (Detweiler) Bechtel. Millie and Wilmer were married on October 2, 1965, at Limerick Chapel by Dr. Rev. Clarence Didden. They resided in Lower Pottsgrove Township for thirteen years, prior to relocating to Boca Raton, Florida in 1978. In 1981 they returned to Pennsylvania, to Douglassville.

After graduation from Boyertown High School, class of 1953, he was employed for thirty-five years with Stanley G. Flagg and Co., in Stowe. He began his career as a clerk, later serving as scheduler, as office manager, and in his final years with the company he was a supervisor and general foreman. For three years he worked as a clerk and in sales at Boca Raton Paint and Wallpaper. Beginning in 1991 he was employed for fifteen years as a payroll clerk with Jones Motor Co., Spring City.

Wilmer is a past member of The Gideons International where he and his wife served in various state and local offices for thirty-six years. He was a member of Exeter Bible Fellowship Church, formerly known as Exeter Bible Church, in Birdsboro, PA. There he served as a member of the Board of Elders and Board of Directors for eight years, also serving as secretary of those boards. He later served as Treasurer and usher and in other capacities.

As a member of Limerick Chapel in the early to mid-1970’s he served in various capacities, including a member of the Board of Trustees, a Committee Chairman, Secretary of the Board, and later as Treasurer. Prior to serving at Limerick Chapel, Wilmer served in various leadership capacities at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Boyertown.

His hobbies were woodworking and working outdoors at their residence. In the early 1960’s, Wilmer was a Boy Scouts leader. He also served as an auditor of finances for the borough of Bechtelsville and was on the board that organized zoning for the borough.

A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at 10:30AM at Trinity Bible Fellowship Church, 220 Main St., Blandon, PA 19510. Friends and family are invited to a viewing prior, from 9:30AM to 10:30AM. The family has asked that those who attend wear masks and socially distance. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, 317 W. Philadelphia Ave., Boyertown, PA 19512.
