William F. Bernhard, 68, of Gilbertsville, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017 in Reading Hospital – Tower Health. He was the husband of Susan (Leh) Bernhard.
Born in Pottstown, he was a son of the late Ralph L. Bernhard and the late Helen S. (Stitzel) Bernhard.
He was a 1966 graduate of Boyertown Area High School. He was employed for over 40 years at Universal Machine in Stowe.
He served in the US Navy as a machinist aboard the USS Saratoga.
He was a member of Good Shepherd U.C.C. in Boyertown. He was also a member of the Orioles in Boyertown, The Friendship Hook & Ladder Company. Pike Township Sportsmen’s Club, Boyertown Rod & Gun Club, he was a past president of The Popodickon Bowman Club. He was also a coach of the Boyertown Midget League and played in Slow Pitch Softball League for many years and an avid golfer and competed in several golf leagues as well as bowling leagues.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by a son, Gregory A., husband of Elizabeth, Boyertown, and a daughter, Eileen S., wife of John L. Dautrich, Gilbertsville. He is also survived by 3 grandsons, Matthew, Stephen, Alex, and a granddaughter Ashley. Several nieces & nephews. A brother Robert (Bo) and two sisters, Jody Good and Susan Yerger.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at on Saturday, December 30, 2017 from 3-7PM at Boyertown Orioles (upstairs), 100 North Washington Street, Boyertown, PA.
