John H. Kehl, 91

John H. Kehl, 91, of Frederick, formerly of Bechtelsville, husband of Martha (Shellaway) Kehl, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Pottstown Hospital-Tower Health.
Born in Bechtelsville, he was the son of the late Mabel (Herb) and John F. Kehl. He was a 1943 graduate of Boyertown High School. John served in the Navy during WWII in the American, European-African and Asia-Pacific theatres. He was the ship’s cook on the LST 357. He worked for Bethlehem Steel in Pottstown as a finisher for 27 years until the plant closed. He then worked for Bally Case and Cooler as a spot welder for 15 years, retiring in 1990.
John was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bechtelsville. He was a life member of Eastern Berks Fire Company in Bechtelsville. For 20 years, John was the fire chief at Keystone Fire Company, Bechtelsville until 1981. He was also a member of VFW Post 8317 in Benton, PA. He was a lifelong Yankees fan.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 69 years are one son Randy B. Kehl, widower of Susan of New Hanover; one daughter, Vicky L. Richter, wife of Fred of Coopersburg, PA; five grandchildren, Craig R. Kehl, husband of Carrie, Rebecca R. Jacobs, wife of Brian, Adrienne B. Searfoss, wife of Craig, Azure D. Spigelmyer, wife of B. J. and Corey Richter, husband of Christine; three great-granddaughters, Brynn, Madelyn and Abigail; eight great-grandsons, Carter J., Carter T., Parker, Tyler, Grant, Jackson, Gavin and Beckett.
He was predeceased by one brother Richard L. Kehl.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 11:30AM at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1749 South Main Street, Bechtelsville, PA. Relatives and friends will be received from 10-11:30AM at the church. Burial will be in Bechtelsville Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the general fund of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, J.D.R.F (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) or Eastern Berks Fire Company. Mail all contributions to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1749 South Main Street, Bechtelsville, PA 19505 for distribution. Use the memo line to indicate your preference.
