Joan Elaine (Quaintance) Herbst, widow of John Herbst, 95, passed away at Manor at Market Square in Reading, on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Born in Oley Township on November 29, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Goldie V. (Shue) Quaintance and Harry Quaintance. She attended Oley Schools until eighth grade when she joined the Boyertown Class of 1948. She continued to help with their class reunions.
Joan worked at Osan Pants Co. in Boyertown for thirty years. She was also employed at Boyertown Orioles Nest #22 as a cook and baker. She had the opportunity to draw thousands of big greeting cards, even for famous people such as John Wayne, Barbara Mandrell, and Randy Travis.
She was a past president of Keystone Fire Company bowling league for forty years and a past president of their auxiliary. She was a member of The Orioles Nest #22, Hookies, and Liberty Auxiliary. She loved to draw, read, make filled noodles and delicious cakes and pies. Joan loved to travel and visited forty-two states and Mexico. Joan was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in New Berlinville and was a past trustee. She gave eulogies at over forty-five funerals. Joan was a in charge of Osan Retiree Luncheons.
Joan is survived by one daughter, Patty Lynn; as well as fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three sons, Glenn, Gary, and Greg, as well as her siblings.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 9:30AM to 11AM at St. Andrew United Methodist Church 611 Swamp Creek Rd Bechtelsville, PA 19505. A visitation will also be held at the same time for Joan’s son Greg, who passed on Sunday, February 15, 2026. A service will follow at 11AM for both Joan and Greg.
Burial will be in St. Andrew UMC Cemetery.
