Kermit James Hill, 100, of Frederick, formerly of Reading, passed away on November 25, 2023, at home.
Born April 2, 1923, at home in Kutztown. He was the son of LeRoy Hill and Mabel (Stein) Hill. The love of his life, his wife of 36 years, Emily (Becker) Hill, passed away on September 22, 1983.
Kermit graduated from Reading High in 1940, then entered the apprentice program at Textile Machine Works and Wyomissing Poly Technical Institute graduating in 1944. He returned to Textile Machine Works as it transitioned to Rockwell Arrow International, and finally retiring from Teleflex after 47 years.
Kermit served in the army after graduating from WPI in 1944 and served his country honorably in The Battle of the Bulge and liberated Ahlem Concentration Camp in Hanover, Germany. He was a lifetime member of the 84th Infantry Division Railsplitters Society.
In retirement, he was a “jack of all trades”. He enjoyed woodworking and helping others, especially other seniors around Reading doing carpenter and painting jobs for the cost of supplies and a meal at lunch. He volunteered for years at Frederick Living where he lived for 21 years. At age 80, he taught himself PC literacy to help other seniors at home.
Kermit is survived by one daughter, Sharon Hartman, wife of Paul of Sassamansville, and 4 grandchildren, Daniel Hartman, Matthew Hartman, husband of Stephanie, Stacey Care, and Christopher Care. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Bennett, Orelia, and Wyatt.
