Linda Wentzel

Linda Wentzel

On Monday, February 20, 2023, Linda Kay Stackman Wentzel, loving wife, mother of two and grandmother of two passed away at age sixty-nine from Ampullary cancer. An avid reader, Linda earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Bloomsburg University and a master’s in library science from Clarion University. She spent six years as a Public Librarian, 12 years as a school librarian and eleven years in the classroom. She was mostly at home in the library. Whether it was leading preschool story times, assisting students with research, or connecting young readers with books, Linda’s goal was to help all she came in contact with become lifelong learners  and critical thinkers.

Linda also loved to travel. Family vacations to the beach was something she looked forward to every summer and it didn’t matter which beach… Ocean City, Maryland, Virginia Beach, The Outer Banks, Stone Harbor, the Florida Keys, or Dewey Beach in Delaware …as long as there was sun, surf, a good book in tow and family, Linda was happy.  Family vacations didn’t just include her husband Gene and her two sons Michael and Scott. More often than not, her parents Mr. & Mrs. Robert Stackman joined them on their travels. Sometimes her sister Susan Stackman Black and family and her brother Bill Stackman and family would be included, and those summer reunions were very special.  She also enjoyed visiting her parents once they retired  in Sun City, Arizona.

Through the years Linda and Gene managed to visit all 50 states, many European countries, and several islands. Besides her parents, they traveled quite extensively with their dear friends, Cindy and Glenn Werstler. A big fan of National Parks, she enjoyed the beauty of nature and the opportunity to hike and experience the wonders of God’s majestic handiwork . But she also loved exploring big cities and was totally captivated by NewYork City, Rome, Paris, London and Chicago. Her only regret was that a trip to Australia and New Zealand and the opportunity to reconnect with her best friend from college, Mary Dorner Wright, was canceled due to Covid Pandemic.

Her family was the most important thing to her. This included her loving husband of 45 years, Gene A. Wentzel, son Michael B. Wentzel (Boyertown, PA) son Scott A. Wentzel ( St. Joseph, MI) and two grandchildren Brooklyn and Jack. Growing up, she was close to both her brother Bill Stackman (Columbia, Mo) and sister Susan Stackman Black ( Grove City, PA) and this strong bond continued to the end. For the past seven years a family tradition began with her sister in law Elaine K. Wentzel (Sassmansville, Pa)  where they would go out to eat most Friday nights. The only stipulation was that it needed to be a different restaurant every time. She also cherished her Daniel Boone Family, the coworkers she bonded with during her tenure there from 2002-2017.

Linda was best known for her quick-witted humor, fierce determination, and generous spirit. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 10:30AM to 11:30AM at Morrell Funeral Home 124 W. Philadelphia Ave Boyertown, PA 19512. A memorial service will follow at 11:30AM .  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that  donations be made to the Boyertown Public Library.

5 Condolences
  1. Sandy & I wish Gene and family our wishes as they deal with this loss of a wonderful person. God Bless you in this time of grief! God Bless, Cliff & Sandy Reinert

  2. Linda was a wonderful, loving, supportive friend and devoted to her family. I had the privilege of meeting her a year ago a few weeks after both of our cancer surgeries. We did surgery recovery and chemo at the same time, messaging nearly every day. She was a source of great comfort to me, and hopefully she felt loved and supported by me as well. I feel so lucky to have walked this journey with her, and my days are a lot less sunny without our daily check ins. Rest easy, my friend. Until we meet again…

  3. Dear Gene & Family, Our very deepest sympathy goes out to you & your entire family. Please find comfort in knowing what a great part you & your family played in her entire life. She was such a lovely, wonderful & kind person. Hold on to all your great memories at this most difficult time. Memories are treasures to carry with you forever & ever. Our thoughts & prayers are with all of you! Thinking of you!

  4. Gene and sons, so sorry to hear of your loss. Apparently, there are many great memories to console you.

  5. Gene and family, I’m so sorry for your loss. I worked with Linda for several years at DBAIC. I knew Linda to be very kind and genuinely interested in people and their lives. Years had passed and Linda would remember and ask about a person or circumstance she and I had briefly discussed between class periods. She cared about every person she came in contact with, especially her students. Her love of reading and the sharing of her vast knowledge left everyone around her more fulfilled. Thoughts and Prayers. Bob
